Questions and Answers

How do I make a reservation?

We do require your credit card information in order to reserve a date/time for you (Visa or Mastercard), and it will be charged 25% of the total amount owing should you fail to show up for your tour. If inclement weather forces us to cancel the tour, then you will not be charged. Our rule of thumb for the weather is:  If there is a 60% chance of precipitation or less, and it's not actually raining, then it's a go. Please note that in order to tour with us, you must sign a liability waiver.

What is a sidecar?

A sidecar is a motorcycle attachment that is used to transport either passengers or cargo. Sidecars are nothing new. They’ve been around almost as long as motorcycles. The last sidecar heyday in North America was in the sixties; but, just like paisley and go-go boots, they’re making a comeback.

Is a sidecar rig safe?

URAL sidecar rigs are licensed under provisions of the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act as motorcycles, and must abide by the same rules and regulations as any other motorized vehicle traveling on provincial roadways. Accidents can happen; but rest assured that your guides are experienced motorcycle riders with unblemished driving records, and will be transporting you as safely as possible.

What is the minimum age for passengers?

There is no minimum age requirement for motorcycle passengers in the province of Nova Scotia. Passengers in the sidecar can be most any age, but we would prefer that those riding on the back of the motorcycle be at least ten years of age, and able to follow the directions of the driver/guide.

Will I be driving the sidecar?

An experienced and licensed guide will be driving the sidecar rig. That gives you the chance to see the sights without the distraction of driving.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Helmets are mandatory for motorcyclists in the province of Nova Scotia and are provided by Bluenose Sidecar Tours Inc.

What type of clothing should I wear?

You should wear long pants and shoes with closed toes for your tour. It’s always a good idea to bring a jacket, as off-shore breezes can be chilly at times.

Do I need to purchase insurance?

No. Motorists in Nova Scotia are required by law to insure their vehicles and this also covers the driver and any passengers.

How early should I book my tour?

Tours can book up quickly, so it is always best to book your tour as early as possible. We will make every effort to accommodate your request.

Will my tour be cancelled if it rains?

There is a saying here in Nova Scotia:  If you don’t like the weather; blink and it will change. Your tour will be cancelled at no cost to you if there is constant rain in the area. The tour may still take place if there is only a light intermittent drizzle. We want you to be comfortable during your visit.

Can I book a group tour?

Each sidecar is only able to carry two passengers at any given time. We are a small company, but we can arrange a group tour if people are willing to take turns over the course of one or several days. Contact us, and we’ll see what we can do.

Does Bluenose Sidecar Tours offer services other than tours?

We are also available for proms, weddings, birthday parties, and other events at an hourly rate.

Are there any physical restrictions?

Maximum weight per passenger is 250 lbs or combined weight of 400 lbs per rig. For safety reasons, the driver/guide reserves the right to seat passengers in either pillion or sidecar to more evenly distribute weight.
